Steak

I did NOT mean to draw Conan O’Brien by the way.

The last night I bought a cheap steak from one of the groceries in the area. I was too lazy to make a sauce myself so I just picked rosemary from the planter and used garlic and butter. I think it tasted great. That was cheap meat so I didn’t expect it to be Wagyu or anything like that. It tasted well and the texture was spot-on

There’s a video of Gordon Ramsay on how to cook steak on Youtube. I think the video helped greatly.

Even though it was a cheap one, having steak for dinner has always been special for me. I’m not saying beef is better than any other meat. It’s just knowing that it’s not something to be eaten every day, and eating it gives me another level of satisfaction.

For the flavor, I think generally you’re supposed to put thyme instead of rosemary but I love both and I didn’t have thyme with me at the time.

I could go to a restaurant to pay for a nice plate, but first of all, I’m broke. And second of all, I’m actually a good cook.

And most importantly, there’s a buildup of excitement when you cook. I love seasoning the meat and searing it on the pan. And the smell and the sizzling sound that come from it. I love seeing the crispy spots when you flip over the meat.

I drew the drawing below today. I like to think that the steak energized me to draw it.

Quarantine in Japan 2

*This is the update post to the original article: Quarantine in Japan

So, with the prime minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe declaring the state of emergency, we Japanese are taking the things more seriously. Though I see some bakeries and restaurants are still running, most of the shipping malls are closed. There is definitely less people walking outside.

It’s so refreshing to see this small population in Osaka. I personally like it because I don’t like being in a very crowded place(it’s kinda ironic that I chose to live in this city). Do you know a Japanese anime called “Neon Genesis Evangelion“? The fictional story is about giant robots fighting giant monsters after a massive cataclysm where the population of entire world have been decreased to half. Basically walking the streets of Osaka today reminds me of the plot of the anime; it’s surreal.

It’s a shame that just in right time, we are no longer able to go outside and appreciate the beautiful cherry blossoms that only bloom for a couple weeks around this time of the year. I’m hoping we can go outside next year.
