One of the most beautiful places I’ve been to is Yaquina Head Lighthouse in Oregon.
I learned about the place because of a video game that was popular at the time. (what a reason!)The whole artistic style of the video game was very beautiful and though I am not too sure of the accuracy of this “rumor”, but I heard that the developing team actually went to the Pacific Northwest of US and made the aesthetic of the video game based on that region.
And I happened to be living in the very region at the time so my friend offered to take me there.
Not to mention of the light house itself, but the whole Oregon coast was very beautiful. I am not talking about the water quality and clearance, it’s rather the scenery of it and the vibe surrounding the area. I was also in love with the little local communities.
Growing up in Japan, I was so accustomed to high density of population and I only grasped the little idea of what living in major cities would be like through tv shows and Hollywood movies , but actually going to the coast and being able to see that myself gave me a different perspective on US.
There were many occasions while I visiting cities that made me think“Huh, I wanna live here” but very few made me think “I really want to live here, damn.” And needless to say, Oregon coast was the latter
And there was the Yaquina Lighthouse, if you have been to that place, you know that there’s no other buildings surrounding the lighthouse. It’s just standing on the cliff and it has the amazing view. I coudln’t help wondering what working at the light house was like. It is probably like living in a fire lookout.
It looked surreal. I felt like the lighthouse is literally from a book. It was June when I went there, and the weather was amazing. There was a hill nearby and I went up there. When I looked down, there was the light house and behind it was the pacific. I imagined if you go far enough I could reach Japan.
I will never forget about the view. And the way it stood there was symbolic to me. Not only it symbolizes the view and my trip Oregon coast, but it also symbolizes my whole stay in Oregon, and the beautiful people I met.
